Because that's what it's really about.

First of all, this was only a suggestion. If you want them more expensive suggest something else. And no, you would only be able to get 8 points with 8 coins (8 first year whites). After that, the price would go up.

for all the above reasons

but the main ones being, they are BIRTHDAY presents, they are easy (or expensive) enough for anyone to obtain, and this game provides you with many, many methods of getting minis OTHER than bdays.

Personally even though I have 8 pets to go, there are many I haven't and won't dedicate: celestials, Shining Blade minis, and others worth a bit.
